Association of Mass Welfare Agencies in Bangladesh (AMWAB) is an apex body representing over 320 NGOs across Bangladesh. Since its inception on March 6, 1993, AMWAB has been dedicated to implementing various social development initiatives nationwide. It is legally registered with both the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
AMWAB’s primary mission is to promote social welfare and facilitate capacity building among its member organizations. This includes enhancing capabilities in management, training, program development, project implementation, and networking. AMWAB operates as a non-profit organization and has established itself as a recognized brand in the development sector over the last 26 years.
With a commitment to alleviating poverty and responding to humanitarian crises, AMWAB plays a crucial role in supporting communities during natural disasters and emergencies. Today, AMWAB’s member organizations collectively serve over 550,000 beneficiaries, of whom 95% are women.
We make an ardent appeal to the well to do section of the society to help the distressed through Zakah, Sadaqah, Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) or any other endowments to bring smile of this poverty stricken people in Bangladesh.
In this vision, Allah says: “And they give food, only for the love of Allah to the poor, the orphan and the captive.” (Surah Al Dahr 76:8–9)

History
Founded by a group of scholars, development practitioners, and volunteers, AMWAB was established to serve as a unified platform for NGOs working across Bangladesh. Its core objective remains the same: to enhance the capacity of grassroots organizations in service delivery through management training, programming, and inter-organizational networking.

Member Organizations
AMWAB acts as a coordinating body, playing a vital role in monitoring and managing the activities of its member organizations. It promotes people-oriented and sustainable development, and supports its members by facilitating access to government resources. These resources are then channeled to benefit marginalized communities at both the local and national levels.
One of AMWAB’s core goals is to strengthen the partnership between NGOs and government agencies, ensuring their collaborative efforts lead to improved service delivery and social development.

AMWAB also works with several Partner NGOs, especially in the area of microfinance. These partner organizations collaborate with AMWAB to extend financial and social support services across Bangladesh.
